Whats a Plant Hardiness Zone?

Why does the hardiness zone matter?
Knowing your plant hardiness zone helps you figure out when to start planting and when to prepare your crops for winter. It'll help you put together your garden calendar. Mobile, Alabama's calendar (Zone 9) is gonna be pretty different from Warsaw Indiana's calendar (Zone 5).


What is it?
Plant Hardiness Zones are all the different growing regions, organized by climate and numbered 1-13 with sub climates, a and b. Don't worry too much about the sub regions, there won't be a huge climate difference between zones 6a and 6b, 9a and 9b, etc.
